Trade Consulting

In trade, Incoterms, customs, imports and exports determine margin and risk — often in a single contract clause. We advise you from our own trading practice: we import, classify and negotiate ourselves, every day — AI-supported from tariff research to landed-cost calculation.

Why work with us

From our own trading practice. Thought through into the accounts.

Trade consulting comes in two kinds: from the seminar room and from real practice. We belong to the second — Tradebonus GmbH trades in its own right: our own imports, our own online shops, our own product range. We classify our goods, choose our Incoterms and negotiate with suppliers in Asia, Turkey and the EU. What we recommend to you, we have first tested with our own money.

And we think beyond the border: because accounting, VAT and administration work under the same roof, our advice does not end at customs clearance — it extends to the input-tax deduction of import VAT and to a cleanly booked margin. This combination of trading practice and fiduciary services is rare in the market.

Proven on our own warehouse

Incoterms, classification, sourcing: our recommendations come from our own trading — not from a textbook.

Margin instead of gut feeling

The landed-cost calculation shows the real cost price before you order — not only once the goods have arrived.

Seamless through to VAT

Import VAT, input-tax deduction and declaration flow cleanly into the figures — with no loss at the interface.

Scope of services

From the Incoterm to goods receipt.

Incoterms, customs & origin

Who pays the freight, who bears the risk, what does customs cost? These questions are decided in the clause, in the HS code and in the origin — long before the goods are on their way. We put all three in order.

  • Incoterms advice for each transaction — from EXW to DDP, including a review of existing quotes and contracts
  • In-house training on Incoterms 2020 and customs practice — hands-on, based on your own goods flows
  • Classification of your products under the Swiss customs tariff (Tares) — for sensitive classifications secured with a binding customs tariff ruling from the FOCBS
  • Preference and origin advice: free trade agreements, EUR.1, origin declarations, REX, supplier declarations
  • Customs compliance check: sample review of customs clearances, classifications and proofs of origin
  • Documented classification logic for each item — traceable in any subsequent audit

Import & export in day-to-day operations

Import and export are everyday, hands-on work: documents, deadlines, partners, duties. We take the handling off your hands or set it up so that your team can master it with confidence — with clear roles for the freight forwarder and the customs declarant.

  • Import handling as a service: document set, freight-forwarder selection and briefing, customs-clearance coordination, shipment tracking through to goods receipt
  • Export set-up: export process, certificate of origin via the chamber of commerce, ATA carnet for temporary export
  • Freight and logistics costs: tendering and comparing forwarding quotes, consolidating shipments, checking freight invoices
  • Export-control and sanctions screening: dual-use goods lists, sanctions lists, destination countries — with a lean internal review process
  • VAT on import and export: import VAT and input-tax deduction, declaration of subordination abroad, chain transactions, transfer procedure
  • Clear division of roles: the customs declaration is filed by the declarant — we prepare, coordinate and review afterwards

Buying & selling internationally

Buying and selling across borders is a matter of negotiation — and of contract. We accompany you from the first supplier contact to the negotiated contractual framework, commercially sound and legally clearly delineated.

  • Supplier search and sourcing in Asia, Turkey and the EU — screening, RFQ process, sample procurement, quality assurance through partners on the ground
  • Purchasing negotiations: prices, minimum quantities, terms — prepared and, on request, accompanied at the table
  • International supply contracts from a commercial angle: Incoterm integration, payment and delivery terms, quality clauses, key points for handover to the lawyer
  • Letter-of-credit and payment-security support: choice of the right safeguard, structuring with your bank, pre-checking of documents before submission
  • Market assessment and search for distribution partners in the target country — demand, competition, market access, distributors
  • Landed-cost comparison of offers and Incoterm scenarios — so that the cheapest offer does not turn out to be the most expensive

Trade knowledge first-hand

We advise on the trade we run ourselves, every day.

Whether trade consulting holds up is shown not by slides, but by three things: by our own practice, by continuity all the way into the figures — and by honesty about who plays which role.

We trade ourselves

What is written on this page is our daily business: we calculate the landed costs of our own product range, check our own assessments and negotiate our own purchasing terms. To us, advising means passing on what has proven itself in our own operation.

Customs and accounting under one roof

Our fiduciary side books what the trading side structures: assessment, import VAT and VAT declaration flow seamlessly into one another. You explain your case once — instead of twice to two service providers.

Clear roles

The customs declaration is filed by the customs declarant, the letter of credit is run by the bank, legal questions are clarified by the lawyer, and licences are granted by SECO. We tell you openly what we take on and what we do not: we coordinate the freight forwarder, customs declarant, bank and lawyer — and keep the threads in hand for you.

Bookable as a package

Four packages with a clearly defined outcome.

Fiscal representation & market entry Switzerland

We represent foreign companies with taxable turnover in Switzerland before the Federal Tax Administration (FTA): registration, ongoing VAT declarations, correspondence with the authorities. On request, we build the complete market entry — company or branch office, importer role, UID and ZAZ account, with Registered Office & Domicile from the same house.

Landed-cost calculation

Goods value, freight, insurance, customs, import VAT, incidental costs, currency risk: we calculate the full cost price of your imported goods — including a comparison of several quote and Incoterm scenarios and your price floor. Calculate first, then order.

Customs compliance check

A sample review of your customs clearances, classifications and proofs of origin with prioritised corrective measures and process recommendations — so that a subsequent audit by the FOCBS becomes an appointment, not a risk.

Incoterms training for your team

Half or full day, for purchasing and sales together: Incoterms 2020, export documents and typical claims cases — built around your own product range and your real supply relationships instead of unfamiliar examples.

From practice

One import — from the supplier quote to goods receipt.

This is how an import shipment runs when calculation, contract, handling and accounting are coordinated from a single source — without surprises at the border, without rework at month-end.

1

Quote and Incoterm comparison with landed cost

Three suppliers, three clauses, three prices — which offer is really the cheapest? We break every quote down to the full cost price: goods value, freight, insurance, customs, import VAT, incidental costs. Only then is the decision made.

2

Contract & payment security

The supply contract is drawn up on a commercial basis: Incoterm integration, delivery and payment terms, quality clauses, key points for choice of law and jurisdiction for handover to the lawyer. We structure the payment safeguard — from advance payment to letter of credit — together with your bank.

3

Documents, freight forwarder, customs-clearance coordination

The commercial invoice, packing list, transport document and proof of origin are ready, the freight forwarder is selected and briefed, and clearance is coordinated with the customs declarant — including the correctly applied preference wherever a free trade agreement applies.

4

Goods receipt, cleanly booked

The goods arrive, the assessment is checked, the import VAT is claimed as input tax — and everything flows correctly into the accounting. The import is complete, and the margin holds up on paper too.

Process

Four steps to well-oiled foreign trade.

1

Taking stock

Supply relationships, contracts, customs clearances and costs — reviewed and ordered in one complete pass.

2

Quick wins

Wrong clauses, unused preferences, freight that costs too much: what works quickly is corrected first.

3

Implementation

Processes, documents, contracts and partners set up anew — accompanied through to the first clean handling.

4

Enablement

Your team trained, the procedures documented — and, on request, we stay on board on an ongoing basis.

Who it's for

Four starting positions, four focal points — seamless support throughout.

Importers & online retailers

From the first container to well-oiled replenishment: landed cost before ordering, correct classification, applied preferences and a freight set-up that matches your volumes. Anyone selling online knows the price pressure — the margin is made in purchasing and at the border.

Exporting SMEs & trades

The first order from the EU is on the table — and with it the formalities: export process, export documents, certificate of origin, ATA carnet for trade fairs and installations abroad. We set the export up cleanly once — after that it runs.

Hospitality & retail with a foreign connection

Direct import of specialities, furnishings or range goods instead of going through intermediaries: we calculate whether direct sourcing pays off, handle the first shipments alongside you and make sure that import VAT and VAT run correctly from the start.

Foreign companies looking to Switzerland

You sell into Switzerland or want a presence here: we represent you for tax purposes, set up the importer role and, on request, build your entire Swiss presence — from registration to ongoing VAT declaration. One point of contact for the whole market entry.

Frequently asked questions

About trade consulting.

What does the right Incoterms clause actually get me?

The clause determines who organises and pays for transport, insurance and customs clearance — and from which point you bear the risk. In practice, a wrongly chosen clause leads to freight being paid twice, goods travelling uninsured, or you being unexpectedly responsible for import in the destination country. We review your quotes and contracts clause by clause and run the scenarios through the landed-cost calculation — then you see in francs what the right choice is worth.

Do you also handle customs clearance?

The customs declaration itself is filed by the customs declarant or freight forwarder through the FOCBS systems — this requires dedicated declaration infrastructure and, as a rule, a ZAZ account. Our role is the stage before and after: we cleanly prepare classification, proofs of origin and documents, brief the declarant, coordinate the handling and check the assessment afterwards. For sensitive classifications we obtain a binding customs tariff ruling from the FOCBS — this gives you legal certainty before the goods are on their way.

Are your Incoterms training courses certified?

No — and we say so openly: Incoterms is a registered trademark of the ICC, and official ICC training may only be delivered by licensed trainers. Our courses do not carry an ICC label. They are practice-oriented in-house formats built around your own product range and your real supply relationships — with the cases that actually occur in your day-to-day work. For anyone who needs an official certificate, we are happy to point you in the right direction.

What happens if the FOCBS verifies our proofs of origin?

Preference proofs such as EUR.1, origin declarations or REX are verified regularly — sometimes years after delivery. If origin cannot then be substantiated, customs back-claims and a strained customer relationship in the destination country loom. That is why every use of preference needs a sound basis: calculation of the origin rules, up-to-date supplier declarations, orderly filing. That is exactly what we check in the customs compliance check — before the authorities do.

As a small SME, do we really need export-control screening?

More often than many think: sanctions and dual-use rules apply regardless of company size, and breaches carry penalties. We screen products against the goods lists, business partners against the sanctions lists and check the destination countries — and build you a lean internal review process that fits into your ordering workflow instead of slowing it down. Clearly delineated: licences are granted solely by SECO, and in sensitive cases we bring in specialised lawyers.

Do you process letters of credit for us?

Payment processing is and remains banking business — we do not take that on. What we do take on: the choice of the appropriate safeguard for each transaction — from advance payment through documentary collection to letter of credit and bank guarantee — the structuring of the letter-of-credit terms together with your bank, and the pre-checking of documents before submission. Because it is on the documentary strictness of a letter of credit that SMEs regularly come unstuck — not on the bank.

We have never imported before — will you accompany the first shipment in full?

Yes, that is exactly what import handling as a service is for: we compare the quotes including landed cost, clarify the Incoterm, assemble the document set, select and brief the freight forwarder, coordinate clearance and track the shipment through to goods receipt. At every stage you see what is happening and why — and by the second import your team already handles much of it itself. That is precisely how it is meant to be.

When don't you need us?

When your foreign trade is well-oiled: your own customs expertise in-house, cleanly documented classifications, applied preferences and a freight-forwarder set-up that matches your volumes. In that case we honestly confirm this to you after a brief stocktake — and you invest your consulting budget where it has more impact. We remain available on a selective basis, for instance when a new country, a new product or a subsequent audit comes up.
